On 29th May 1913 a riot took place during a ballet performance in Paris that was to change the course of musical and cultural history. Stravinsky’s groundbreaking ballet score ‘The Rite of Spring’, choreographed by Nijinsky, remains one of the most influential pieces of the 20th century. But within minutes of the curtain being raised at the premiere the audience erupted and there was so much noise that the music was barely audible.”
